June 14 Free guided tours of the Los Baños archaeological museum in Alhama
Find out about life during the Argaric period in Alhama 3,500 years ago
Coinciding with European Archaeology Week, the Los Baños archaeological museum in Alhama de Murcia is holding three guided tours on Saturday 14th June in which information is given about the way of life over 3,000 years ago at the recently discovered site of Cabecico Redondo de La Muela, on the lower slopes of Sierra Espuña.
The site is close to another of archaeological interest, that of El Murtal, and consists of two phases of habitation in the first half of the 2nd millennium BC, during the period of predominance in this part of the world of the Argaric culture. Investigative digging only started here in 2021, but already it is believed that this was the home of a fortress used to keep watch over the surrounding area.
However, there was also a substantial non-military population, as evidenced by the discovery of domestic implements including 20 weights used in weaving, an important feature of Argaric civilization.
The guided tours on 14th June take place at 10.00, 11.00 and 12.00, and group sizes are limited: contact the museum to book your spot.
