Jumilla Town Council has secured a €30,000 grant from Region of Murcia government to improve universal accessibility in the town's museums.

 

The funding comes from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports as part of a competitive grants programme aimed at municipalities to finance tourism quality improvements, modernisation and enhancement of tourism resources.

 

The grant programme is designed to help local authorities modernise tourist establishments and services, digitise infrastructure and enhance the value of tourism assets.

 

The project presented by Jumilla Town Council, entitled "Museums within reach of all the senses", received the maximum funding available for this call. The initiative aims to improve universal accessibility in the main museum spaces of Jumilla, including the two sections of the Jerónimo Molina Museum and the Wine Museum.

 

The improvements form part of the Town Council's social policies of inclusion and accessibility, seeking to eliminate physical, sensory and cognitive barriers and adapt museum spaces to the needs of all visitors, with special attention to people with visual, hearing and cognitive disabilities.

 

The project will incorporate tactile and Braille resources, install pictograms and easy-to-read materials to facilitate understanding for people with cognitive or intellectual disabilities, as well as install NaviLens codes to facilitate access to museum audio guides. The museums will also add tactile figures and interactive screens for projecting videos and audio guides.
