Jumilla restaurant draws praise from the Murcia government
Restaurante de Loreto is one of many fine dining establishments in northern Murcia
The town of Jumilla in northern Murcia is blessed with many fine restaurants (click here for a more complete listing) but just one of them has been singled out for special recognition by the Department of Tourism Competitivity and Quality in the Regional government under the umbrella of its latest “Casos de Éxito” campaign.
The establishment chosen is the Restaurante De Loreto on Calle Canalejas, almost next door to the church of El Salvador in the centre of town, run by sisters Irene and Eva López. Seven restaurants in the Region of Murcia have been selected for a promotional video being made by the regional government under the slogan “Un caso de éxito es el éxito de todos” (a single success is a success for all of us), all of them real-life examples of how in the restaurant business the cream, appropriately, rises to the top.
Present at the presentation of the new video was Seve González, the Mayoress of Jumilla, as well as the two owners of the restaurant, and they heard the Eva Reverte, the director general of the Department, praising De Loreto as a project in which “cooking becomes a way to interpret the whole geographical area, highlighting its produce, its identity and the environment.
De Loreto occupies a 150-year-old noble house in the centre of Jumilla and the menu has always featured the very best of local produce prepared with an exquisite touch. The aim for sustainability has never been far from the owners’ minds as the business has grown and the utmost respect is shown for local products and producers – for example, the locally-grown Ercolino pears (which have Denomination of Origin status in Jumilla) are used to make various of the sauces and vinegars served.
