Jumilla opens long-awaited caravan parking area

The new site includes water, electricity and essential services in place and 24-hour access

Jumilla has officially opened its new caravan parking area, responding to the steady rise in caravan travel across the Region.

Although the site itself has been ready for some time, it could not open until the proper rules and regulations were in place. According to the Town Hall, the delay was not due to the construction, but the amount of administrative work needed to make sure everything could run legally and safely.

Tourism councillor Asunción Navarro said the site had no usage rules or fee structure, which meant it could not open to the public. Over the past few months, the council has worked through the full legal process, including drafting the regulations, opening them up to public feedback and getting final approval.

Basically, the project was already in place, but it could not open without the required paperwork.
During this time, the council also looked at ways to improve the service. This included options like video surveillance, access control and updated payment systems for water and electricity to make things easier for visitors.

The new caravan parking area has 11 spaces and includes drinking water, electricity, lighting and a dedicated waste disposal point. It is accessible for people with reduced mobility, open 24 hours a day and stays are limited to 72 hours. It will be free to use for the first few months.

The hope is that more caravan travellers will stop in Jumilla and spend time in the area, enjoying its wineries, countryside, and other cultural spots.

It is a fairly simple addition, but one that could bring more visitors into the area throughout the year.
