July 6 Guided tour of the Sanctuary of the Virgen de las Huertas in Lorca

The remains of an ancient Moorish caliphal palace lie under this church in Lorca
The church and sanctuary of the Virgen de las Huertas in Lorca opens its doors for this guided tour, during which visitors can see not only the church itself but also parts of the adjoining Franciscan monastery and the remains of the Moorish palace which have been found below the Christian structures. Inside are the figure of the Virgen de las Huertas, the adopted patron of the city of Lorca, and a collection of Franciscan paintings which is unmatched in the Region of Murcia.
The visit also includes information about the reconstruction which was made necessary by the earthquakes which hit the city in May 2011.
The visit begins at 12.00 at the side entrance to the Convento de la Virgen de las Huertas and lasts until approximately 13.15, costing 10 euros for over-16s, 9 euros for 13- to 16-year-olds and those entitled to discounts, including pensioners and holders of the Lorca y Tú card. Admission is free for under-13s.
