July 5 A tribute to Bebo Valdés and Steffen Morrison in concert at the 2024 San Javier Jazz Festival
Roberto Carlos Valdés “Cucurucho”, Alana Sinkëy and Steffen Morrison in a double header at the open-air auditorium of Parque Almansa in San Javier
TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE ONLINE HERE for both season tickets and individual concerts.
Kicking off this double bill in the Parque Almansa auditorium of San Javier is Roberto Carlos Valdés “Cucurucho”, a prestigious jazz pianist in his own right as well as grandson of the legendary Bebo Valdés and nephew of Chucho Valdés. He leads a tribute to his grandfather which also includes special guest singer Alana Sinkëy.
Roberto Carlos Valdés, who like his illustrious forebears hails from Cuba, was a member of Los Van Van and has also played with greats such as Bebo Valdés, Rubén Blades, Óscar de León, Juanes and Orishas. He is accompanied by Javier Colina, for many the best double-bassist in Spanish jazz, and a reference for contemporary music as well as pop, flamenco and Latin music. He had a great relationship with the pianist Bebo Valdés, with whom he played and recorded on numerous occasions including the “Lágrimas Negras” project, with Diego El Cigala. In fact, one of the first time Bebo Valdés performed with Diego El Cigala was during the 5th edition of the San Javier Jazz Festival.

Admired for his passion and energy on stage and his great sensitivity as a composer, his albums establish him as one of the best artists of the genre, influenced by giants such as James Brown, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Teddy Pendergrass. He is currently based in Amsterdam.
His concerts are unforgettable for soul fans, and this appearance marks a return to Jazz San Javier after his debut in the 23rd edition of the festival as he presents his latest album “Legacy”.
