For many centuries now the city of Caravaca de la Cruz has been the unofficial capital of the north-west of the Region of Murcia, dating back to when it became associated with Christian mysticism following the miraculous apparition of the True Cross in the early 13th century.
As a result of this status, Caravaca has been home to various noble families over the last 750 years, and this is of course reflected in the architecture around the old centre. This tour on 25th July takes visitors around some of the oldest streets in the city, with explanations offered of those who lived in the palatial residences here and the heraldic coats of which remain emblazoned on their façades.
The visit begins at the tourist office at Calle de las Monjas 19, and although it is free of charge prior registration will be required online here in due course.
The “Caravaca heráldica” tour lasts approximately 2 hours and places are available for a maximum of 25 people.
