Los Alcazares Today is a website set up by Murcia Today specifically for residents of the urbanisation in Southwest Murcia, providing news and information on what’s happening in the local area, which is the largest English-speaking expat area in the Region of Murcia.
When submitting text to be included on Los Alcazares Today, please abide by the following guidelines so we can upload your article as swiftly as possible:
Send an email to editor@spaintodayonline.com or contact@murciatoday.com
Attach the information in a Word Document or Google Doc
Include all relevant points, including:
Who is the organisation running the event?
Where is it happening?
When?
How much does it cost?
Is it necessary to book beforehand, or can people just show up on the day?
…but try not to exceed 300 words
Also attach a photo to illustrate your article, no more than 100kb
January 16 to 19 Annual fiestas in the Caravaca village of Benablón
The feast day of San Antonio Abad falls on January 17
Like their near neighbours in Navares, the residents of the village of Benablón in the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz celebrate the feast day of their patron saint, San Antonio Abad (or San Antón) on and around January 17, and the program for this year’s festivities is as follows:
Thursday January 16
21.00: Dinner, all those attending bring their own food to share with others, with music by the Cuadrillas de Barranda.
Friday January 17
20.00: Hot chocolate and buns for all.
23.00: Live music for the first big night of the fiestas.
Saturday January 18
8.00: The residents rise early to collect firewood.
14.00: Lunch for all after the firewood collectors return!
15.30: Music and drinks for all the local community.
20.00: The lighting of the traditional San Antón bonfire as neighbours enjoy potatoes with garlic mayonnaise together.
23.00: Hippie-themed party, with music and memories from the 1960s!
Sunday January 19
10.00: Holy Mass and the blessing of cakes.
11.00: The San Antón cake raffle!
14.00: Paella for all.
17.00: Procession of the figure of the patron saint through the village.
