Imserso opens applications for 2026-27 budget holidays for retirees
Pensioners and eligible retirees have until July 10 to apply for subsidised breaks across Spain

The application period has opened for Spain's hugely popular Imserso travel programme, giving pensioners and retirees the chance to enjoy heavily subsidised holidays across the country during the 2026-27 season.
This year's programme will offer 879,213 places, with thousands of discounted trips available to older residents looking for an affordable getaway.
Applications can be submitted between Monday June 22 and Friday July 10. Those who have already taken part in previous seasons do not need to apply again unless their personal details or travel preferences have changed.
Trips start from just €132, although prices vary depending on the destination, length of stay and time of year. The most affordable options are generally available during the quieter months of November through until March, while holidays in October, May and June tend to cost a little more.
A total of 7,447 places will be offered at a special reduced rate of €50 for eligible travellers with limited financial resources.
To qualify, applicants must generally be receiving a Spanish retirement pension or widow's pension and be aged 55 or over, or receive certain other Social Security benefits. People aged 65 and over who are insured through the Spanish Social Security system may also qualify, along with some Spanish citizens living abroad or those who have returned to Spain after living overseas.
Successful applicants can travel with a spouse or long-term partner even if that person does not meet the programme requirements. Children with a disability of 45% or more may also accompany participants under certain conditions.
The package price usually includes accommodation in a shared double room, meals and, for most destinations, transport. Single rooms are available for an additional charge.
One feature introduced recently and continuing this season is the option for travellers to bring pets on selected mainland and island coastal holidays.
Anyone wishing to apply can do so through the Imserso website, by post or through authorised registration offices.
For many retirees in Spain, the programme remains one of the most affordable ways to enjoy a break away, with destinations across the country available at prices that are often difficult to match elsewhere.
