Huge turnout for Águilas' first Women's Race on International Women's Day

Águilas' first Women's Race brought families and friends together to celebrate women and equality in the town

Around 400 people took part in Águilas' first Women's Race, coming together to celebrate International Women's Day. The event was organised by Club Nintai and it was included in the local council's Equality Department programme. The race gave people of all ages the chance to walk or run together while recognising the achievements of women, especially the women of Águilas.

Elena Casado, the council's equality spokesperson, said the event “was a huge success, exceeding all expectations.” She also pointed out the strong family participation and the importance of remembering the women who have worked so hard to create equality between men and women.

María Victoria Cáceres, who organised the non-competitive race, added that “this first edition sets a great example for future events. It brings sport and the celebration of equality together in a friendly and welcoming way.”

People of all ages took part, with children, parents and grandparents all joining in and enjoying the chance to spend time together to support the important message behind the event. Many of the participants said they liked being able to take part at their own pace, and the families ended up making a full day out of it.
