Hoppy launches its new shared electric bike service in Mojácar
120 bikes are already available with more on the way as the town embraces greener ways to get around

Mojácar now has its own shared electric bike service, with operator Hoppy Mobility launching the scheme on Monday June 8 with 120 bikes already available across the town. A further 80 will be added progressively over the coming weeks, bringing the total fleet to 200.
The service runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is open to anyone aged 18 or over. To get started, users download the Hoppy Mobility app, available on both iOS and Android, register an account and use the built-in map to find the nearest available bike. Unlocking is done by scanning a QR code on the bicycle with your phone.
Rather than leaving bikes scattered wherever riders happen to finish their journey, Hoppy uses geofencing technology to designate specific drop-off zones across the town, marked by unobtrusive ground markings. Trips can only be ended within these authorised areas, and users are asked to take a photo of the correctly parked bike to complete the journey.
Certain pedestrian areas and sensitive urban zones also have automatic speed reductions or restrictions built in, keeping things safe for everyone sharing the space.
The company will also actively redistribute bikes between areas to ensure availability stays balanced across different parts of town throughout the day.
Jacob Hammerstein, Hoppy's Director of Public Affairs, described the launch as a huge step towards more connected and sustainable mobility in the town.
"We want to contribute to making getting around the city easier and more accessible, strengthening the connection between neighbourhoods, facilities, commercial areas and transport hubs, always from a perspective of coexistence and respect for public space," he said.
For visitors and residents, it's a practical and affordable way to get around, particularly for those last-mile journeys between the beach, the old town, local businesses and transport connections.
