Guardia Civil breaks up Murcia gang behind 50 home burglaries
Operation Twilight ends a year-long crime spree across Murcia and Alicante
A spree of burglaries across Murcia and Alicante have been solved after the Guardia Civil dismantled a criminal gang operating in the regions. The arrests came during the second phase of Operation Twilight, launched after officers noticed a surge in home break-ins late last year. These took place across the Region in the municipalities of Lorca, Puerto Lumbreras, Santomera, Las Torres de Cotillas, Beniel, Águilas and Totana, as well as in Guardamar del Segura, Dolores and Almoradí in the province of Alicante. The thefts had caused concern among residents and prompted a coordinated police investigation.
According to the Guardia Civil, the group targeted homes they believed were empty. They studied their victims in advance and then broke through fences, forced doors and windows, and disabled security systems such as bars and CCTV. Once inside, they made off mainly with cash and jewellery, although some electronic items were also taken.
As investigators gathered more evidence, they noticed recurring patterns in the gang’s behaviour, including their choice of locations and times of activity, which helped officers anticipate their next moves.
In February, a vehicle linked to the suspects was detected in Lorca. A surveillance operation involving the Local Police of Lorca led to a dramatic, high-speed chase, during which the suspects drove recklessly and collided with several police vehicles before being arrested.
Following the arrests, officers continued analysing the evidence collected throughout the operation. This work has since helped to clarify around 50 burglaries committed between late 2023 and February 2025.
