February 5 to March 8 Death is Not the End, exhibition of ancient funeral goods in Jumilla

La Muerte no es el Final at the archaeological museum of Jumilla

This fascinating exhibition, entitled “La Muerte no es el Final” (Death is Not the End), opens at the Jerónimo Molina archaeological museum in Jumilla on Thursday 5^th February and remains open to the public until 8^th March.

The exhibits trace burial habits in the long history of human habitation in and around Jumilla, focussing especially on the placement of funeral goods in the tombs and graves of the departed. By studying these items we can learn about the beliefs which existed in the past concerning death and what lies beyond, as well as deducing economic and cultural aspects of the societies in which those buried were living: the objects reflect the identity and status of the deceased, giving us key information for archaeological interpretation.

All of the items on display are held by the archaeological museum, illustrating this aspect of life in Jumilla through the centuries and millennia.
