December 5 to 8 Massive medieval market in Caravaca de la Cruz, with food, jousting, parades and loads more!
Revisit the Middle Ages in the Holy City of Caravaca!
Over the long holiday weekend of 5th to 8th December, the 21st annual medieval market is being held in the old centre of Caravaca de la Cruz, specifically in Gran Vía, Calle Canalica, Calle Puentecilla, Plaza del Arco, Plaza Nueva, Calle de las Monjas, Calle Colegio, Paseo de Santa Clara, Calle Mayor, Calle Rafael Tejeo and Calle Santísimo.
The market begins at 10.30am on Friday December 5 with an initial musical parade in the streets, including soldiers from the Medieval Encampment, jugglers, wizards, dancers, knights and many others, and scattered among the 200 or so stands and stalls there are also gruesome workshops and demonstrations of medieval surgery and torture, plus henna, glass blowing and more!
Not only that, but one of the major additions this year is a giant 3-metre-tall knight templar you can take a photo with.
Also of note is that, after a six-year absence, the traditional medieval jousting tournament returns to the Plaza de Toros on Sunday December 7 at 5pm. The Medieval Joust will bring together knights clad in armour to recreate battles and challenges typical of the period. Tickets can be purchased in advance on the website www.eventbrite.es or at the box office before the event.
The main thing is that there are street performances and parades taking place almost constantly over the course of the weekend. It really is a jam-packed schedule. Be sure to go dressed up in your best medieval costume, to really fit in!
The full program for the four days can be found online here in Spanish, with over 150 events scheduled across the weekend!
