Deadline nearly up for Mar Menor Golf Resort tourist licence vote
MM2 homeowners who didn’t vote at the EGM can still vote by email, but must be quick

Voting for whether to allow short-term tourist let apartments at Mar Menor Golf Resort is taking place right now on the resort, allowing homeowners to decide the fate of the resort with regards to the use of properties.
Following a recent change in the law in Spain, a majority of two-thirds of property owners in any given ‘comunidad’ – be that community an apartment building or an ‘urbanización’ gated estate – is now required to approve the granting of new applications for short-term holiday rentals.
Vacation rental apartments and villas are typically those properties rented out for a period of 90 days or less, and are a popular accommodation option for tourists coming to Spain. The Spanish government’s new law aims to give communities more control over how these businesses operate.
On MM2 of the Mar Menor Golf Resort, each ‘parcela’ or plot of land is having an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to vote on the issue. Most of these meetings took place at the end of May, and now any owners who didn’t vote have up to 30 days after the meeting to register their vote.
Anybody who wants to vote must email info@mm2housing.com immediately stating their plot number and either FOR or AGAINST allowing new short-term tourist rental licences to be granted.
Local real estate agent, Matt Oakley, who owns the MGP estate agency based on the Mar Menor Golf Resort, points out that property values in parcelas which vote against short-term rentals will be lower than those where potential buyers can make some income from holiday rentals to assist with the cost of ownership.
“Voting against it makes your property less appealing to buyers than the same property in a parcela where holiday rentals are permitted,” said Matt, though he recognised that the final decision is in the hands of each owner and how they wish to vote for their own interests.
