Costa Blanca city in shock as dad kills toddler, 3, before taking his own life
Torrevieja city council has declared two days of official mourning following the tragedy

A three-year-old girl and her father have been found dead in Torrevieja in what police are investigating as a tragic case of “vicarious violence”.
Authorities believe the child’s father, aged 40, murdered his daughter before taking his own life at his home in the popular Costa Blanca resort. The nationalities of both the victim and the suspect have not been made public.
The local police suspect the deaths are linked to the twisted crime of “vicarious violence”, where an abuser harms a woman by targeting her loved ones, often her children. The girl’s mother had raised the alarm after being unable to contact her ex-partner and fearing for their daughter’s safety.
Reports indicate the father had previously threatened to harm the child if the mother did not end her relationship with a new partner. According to the Guardia Civil, the mother reported these threats just a day before the discovery of the bodies.
At 1am on the morning of the tragedy, police arrived at the scene and found the bodies of the three-year-old girl and her father. The mother, who had been frantic about her daughter’s safety, was devastated by the news.
In response to the tragedy, Torrevieja observed a minute of silence on Sunday March 22, as part of the first official day of mourning decreed by the city council. Dozens of people gathered outside the Town Hall to show solidarity and condemn the shocking crime.Torrevieja’s mayor, Eduardo Dolón, expressed his gratitude to those who took part in the moment of reflection, calling it an “important but symbolic” act for the grieving community.
“We are still in shock, wondering how something so horrendous could happen,” he said.
In addition to the town’s collective mourning, the mother of the murdered child has been receiving full support from the city’s social services and psychological professionals. According to the mayor, she is now at home with her family, following some time in hospital.
