Corvera Airport records double-digit growth in flights during April
The Region of Murcia International Airport welcomed more than 97,000 passengers in the first four months of 2026

Murcia International Airport in Corvera continued its strong run of growth in April, handling more than 97,000 passengers during the month.
According to figures released by Aena, the airport recorded 97,238 passengers in April 2026, an increase of 5.7% compared to the same month last year.
International travel remained the dominant market, with 86,140 passengers flying on overseas routes. Domestic traffic saw the biggest rise, however, jumping by 54.3% to almost 11,000 passengers.
Flight activity also increased significantly, with the airport handling 783 aircraft movements during the month, up 11.9% year-on-year.
The latest figures mean Corvera has now welcomed 229,194 passengers during the first four months of 2026, representing an impressive annual growth of more than 20%. Aircraft movements during the same period rose by almost 22%.
The UK continues to be Corvera’s biggest international market by far, with regular services operating to London Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, alongside Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Bournemouth, Glasgow and East Midlands. Ryanair remains the airport’s main airline operator on British routes.
Despite the positive momentum, Corvera’s passenger numbers are still well below the levels once achieved by the former Murcia-San Javier Airport before it closed in 2019.
At its peak, San Javier handled almost 479,000 passengers during the first four months of 2007, more than double Corvera’s current figures for the same period.
The latest figures come as Aena reported another busy month across its wider airport network. The Aena Group, which includes 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil, handled more than 33.4 million passengers in April, up 3.6% year-on-year.
Across Spain alone, Aena airports processed more than 28.2 million passengers during the month, alongside 242,424 aircraft movements and almost 113,000 tonnes of cargo.
In the first four months of 2026, the wider Aena network handled nearly 115 million passengers worldwide. Aena said part of the increase this year has been linked to passengers switching from rail travel following the major train accident in January.
