Corvera airport ends 2025 on a high as passenger numbers continue to climb
International travel drives growth at Region of Murcia International Airport despite domestic dip
The Region of Murcia International Airport at Corvera has closed 2025 with just under one million passengers, rounding off a year of steady growth and rising international demand.Figures released on Tuesday January 13 show that 949,007 passengers passed through the airport in 2025, an increase of 4.3 percent compared with the previous year. The vast majority were travelling on commercial flights, with international routes once again doing the heavy lifting.
Of the total, 840,115 passengers flew internationally, marking a 6.7 percent rise on 2024. Domestic travel, however, moved in the opposite direction, falling by 6.5 percent to 107,323 passengers. Even so, the overall trend points to a gradual strengthening of Corvera’s role as a gateway for visitors to the Region of Murcia, particularly from abroad.
Flight activity also picked up over the year. A total of 7,640 aircraft movements were recorded in 2025, up 7 percent on the previous year. That growth reflects the expanding range of international connections that have been added in recent seasons, especially during the winter months, as airlines test demand beyond the traditional summer peak.
December provided a strong finish to the year. The airport handled 41,279 passengers during the month, a jump of 20.2 percent compared with December 2024. Aircraft movements also rose sharply, up 18.8 percent to 487 flights, suggesting growing confidence among airlines and travellers alike.
These latest figures come against the backdrop of Corvera’s longer-term recovery. While passenger numbers remain well below the levels seen at the former San Javier airport in its busiest years, the upward trend continues. Behind the scenes, the airport has also been investing in day-to-day operations to support that growth, from safety measures on the airfield to wildlife control on the runway.
At a national level, Corvera’s progress mirrors a strong year for Spain’s airport network as a whole. Aena reported a “historic record number of passengers” across its airports in 2025, with more than 384 million travellers worldwide. The operator says it is already working on future investment plans to ensure airports have the capacity they need as demand continues to rise.
For regular flyers and residents alike, the message from Corvera is a familiar one. Passenger numbers are still rebuilding, but the direction of travel remains firmly upward.
