Condado de Alhama chosen as training base for 2030 World Cup along with 3 others in the region
Soon-to-be-built Alhama Arena joins Pinatar Arena, La Manga Club and La Torre Golf to be official sub-venues in the Region of Murcia for the 2030 World Cup
The soon-to-be-constructed Alhama Arena sports complex, whose inauguration is scheduled for the end of 2025, has been selected as an official base and training camp for teams competing in the 2030 World Cup as announced on July 19 by RFEF the Spanish Football Federation.
The RFEF also confirmed the 11 stadiums that will host matches in the tournament. Unfortunately, the Real Murcia, Enrique Roca Stadium was finally left out.
Four training centres in the Region of Murcia will be sub-venues for the 2030 World Cup, the facilities of Pinatar Arena, La Manga Club, La Torre Golf de Roldán and the Alhama Arena could host concentrations and training sessions of some national teams.
The Condado de Alhama venue is a joint venture with Alhama de Murcia Council and the firm Alhama Nature and subsidiary company Alhama Healthy Living, who will invest 2.5 million euros for the construction of the 'Alhama Arena' football complex with five training fields to provide for more than 100 teams a year and 30,000 players contesting fifty games, in addition to a main stadium with capacity for 3,500 spectators.
Alhama Arena and Pinatar Arena are both controlled by companies run by Mariano Sánchez and Fran de Paula, who also manage the football facilities at La Torre Golf.
After the 2026 World Cup to be hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, the 2030 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Spain, Morocco and Portugal. Spain will have 11 venues, Morocco six and Portugal three, complying with FIFA's regulations of presenting a maximum of 20 stadiums, the RFEF said in its announcement.
The stadiums that will host matches of the 2030 World Cup will be Anoeta (Donostia-San Sebastián), Camp Nou (Barcelona), Gran Canaria (Las Palmas), La Cartuja (Seville), La Rosaleda (Málaga), Metropolitano (Madrid), Nueva Romareda (Zaragoza), RCDE Stadium (Barcelona, Cornellá-El Prat), Riazor (A Coruña), San Mamés (Bilbao) and Santiago Bernabéu (Madrid).
Although RFEF has chosen the training camps, the venues will have to go through a direct evaluation process by FIFA and it is then up to the qualifying country's football associations to select which venue it wishes to use.
