Caravaca de la Cruz plants nearly 100 trees to create more green spaces across town
The employment scheme grant will see Caravaca workers plant new species in parks, streets and school grounds

Caravaca de la Cruz Town Council is planting nearly 100 trees across parks, gardens, streets and public spaces as part of a drive to improve outdoor areas for residents.
The tree replacement and planting campaign covers both the town centre and various outlying districts, aiming to regenerate spaces used for leisure, sports and recreation.
The work is being carried out under the Regional Agricultural Councils employment plan, funded by a €326,205 grant from the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) with an additional €31,000 municipal contribution.
A total of 59 workers are involved, including 12 foremen and 47 agricultural labourers, all supervised by technicians from the municipal gardening service.Councillor for Public Services Mónica Sánchez said the town council has been continuously developing a plan for the maintenance and improvement of green spaces.
"We continue working to make Caravaca a more pleasant, sustainable and well-maintained municipality every day," she added.
Different tree species are being planted throughout the town, including white poplars, lindens, ash trees, cercis, prunus, privets and laurels. In the urban centre, work is taking place in parks such as El Cejo, Parque de Educación Vial and the Pedro García Esteller park, as well as along streets and avenues including Juan Carlos I, Gran Vía, Raimundo Rodríguez, Constitución, Colón, José Antonio Ruzafa, Simancas and Paseo de Santa Clara.
The scheme is also extending to squares, urban planters and various districts across the municipality. Areas benefiting from the planting include La Encarnación, Navares, Benablón, Archivel and La Almudema.Infant and primary schools are also getting new trees as part of the plan, helping to improve the school environment and create healthier, more sustainable spaces for pupils.
