Caravaca adds striking new piece of street art inspired by royal history
The new mural joins a series of large artworks celebrating Caravaca de la Cruz's history and traditions

Visitors arriving in Caravaca de la Cruz will now be greeted by a striking new mural celebrating an important moment in the town's history.
The large-scale artwork on Calle Las Monjas pays tribute to the visit of King Ferdinand II of Aragon, known as Ferdinand the Catholic, who travelled to Caravaca in 1488 to venerate the Vera Cruz.
Created by Cartagena-born urban artist KRASER, the mural took more than a week to complete and offers a modern interpretation of the historic event. The work combines contemporary street art with elements linked to Caravaca's rich heritage and religious significance.
Mayor José Francisco García explained that the project isn’t just about decorating a wall, but that it helps bring local history closer to both residents and visitors while also improving public spaces and creating new attractions within the historic centre.
The mural is the fourth major artwork commissioned by the council as part of efforts to enhance the old town. It joins existing murals dedicated to the Wine Horses, the Apparition of the Holy and True Cross and a historic panoramic view of the city, creating an informal urban art route for visitors to explore.
Also on Calle Las Monjas, a new park-and-ride facility is being developed close to one of the main entrances to the historic centre. The scheme will provide around 50 parking spaces, along with bicycle parking, accessible facilities and an area where residents, tourists and pilgrims can stop and rest.
The project is being funded through European Next Generation funds under the Tourism Sustainability Plan linked to the Camino to Caravaca initiative.
