Camposol biogas plant Call to Arms
Camposol's Legal Platform against Biogas issue request for show of solidarity during the Town Hall Pleno meeting

The Camposol's Legal Platform against Biogas ask that local residents and homeowners who have concerns regarding the proposed location of the biogas plant to gather in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento (outside the Town Hall and Casas Consistoriales) in Mazarrón while the Council Pleno meeting is in progress on Tuesday, July 28 at 9.30am to express their support of the proposed motion to limit the distance that biogas facilities can be constructed in relation to residential areas.
The reason for this request is the the Platform have received information that interested parties from the biogas sector may attend to protest against the motion which would place obvious limitations on the positioning of biogas plants.
It will be at this pleno meeting that the council will put forward and vote on the motion controlling the location of installations including Biogas plants, the motion is item 2 on the agenda so will be heard very shortly after the meeting opens, among other stipulations the motion will exclude planning permission for installations such as biogas plants and new pig farms to be constructed within 3km of urban areas and residential developments such as Camposol, Mazarrón Country Club, Rusticana, etc.

Casas Casistoriales
The failure to approve this motion could leave the door open for the proposed biogas plant to resume progress and the possibility of other such plants to be constructed in the proximity of residential areas.
The proposed new legislation has come about in part from meetings and communications between the Camposol Legal Platform against Biogas and Mazarrón Council after planning proposals for a biogas plant around one kilometre from the Camposol urbanisation was lodged with the regional government in July of last year.
The Platform also commissioned an extensive technical report which raised serious concerns about the legality and viability of the proposed plant.
As previously stated by the Camposol Legal Platform against Biogas “The Platform wants to make it clear that the opposition is not directed against biogas plants in general, which can be part of the circular economy and a sustainable energy model, but against those locations that may negatively affect the quality of life, safety, the residential environment and the well-being of residents”.
