Ayuntamiento de Murcia anticipates €16m in fines next year
Traffic offences to lead rise from 2025 forecast of €14.8m
The Ayuntamiento de Murcia has projected €15,821,000 in fines revenue for its 2026 budget, an increase of around €1 million from this year's €14.8 million estimate. The figure is based on historical data, with traffic violations expected to contribute the largest share at €6.3 million, up €100,000. Ayuntamiento sources attribute the traffic rise to the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), including more incursions into bus lanes during an adaptation period.Policía Local issued nearly 4,000 fines to electric scooter users between April 2024 and June 2025, primarily for riding in pedestrian areas or on pavements where prohibited. Enforcement will also intensify on parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities and loading/unloading zones for goods vehicles, under the updated transport regulations.
Urban planning violations are forecast to generate €3 million, mainly from construction projects that fail to match approved permits or lack them altogether. Councilor for Urban Planning, Agriculture and the Environment Antonio Navarro stated that such non-compliant builds represent the majority of cases in this category.
Tax-related fines are set to more than double to €1,521,000 from €605,000 this year, with the remainder from other penalties making up the total. TramiMultas, which manages infractions from Ronda de Levante, reports sharp growth in drug use and possession fines, particularly for marijuana and hashish. The company has also noted increased traffic penalties in the city centre on resident-only streets such as San Cristóbal, San Nicolás and San Riquelme, alongside speeding and excess blood alcohol offences.
