August 7 and 15 Stargazing in Caravaca: Observe the Perseid meteor shower
Learn of myths and legends associated with the stars at the remarkable archaeological complex of La Encarnación in the countryside of Caravaca
One of the “Jubilee Experiences” available during the Holy Jubilee Year of 2024 in Caravaca de la Cruz is this activity entitled “Mitos y Perseídas”, consisting of an observation of the Perseid meteor shower, often known in Spain as the “Lágrimas de San Lorenzo” (the tears of San Lorenzo).
The activity takes place at the remarkable archaeological site of La Encarnación, in the heart of the countryside where the skies are among the clearest in the Region of Murcia, and under the supervision of the team from Astroversia it includes explanations of the summer sky constellations and the myths associated with them, in which gods, semi-gods and mere humans share incredible adventures.
Telescopes are provided and each participant can take his or her own photograph of the Moon!
The activity is being held on August 7 and 15 at 22.00 at a cost of 15 euros per adult and 10 euros per child (aged 5 to 11). Prior registration is required online here.
Further information is also available by email from hola@astroversia.com.
