August 30 Free open-air concert by Son de Madera in the Caravaca village of Barranda

The first event in this summer’s A La Luna de Barranda season features Jarocho music from Mexico

The annual “A La Luna de Barranda” season of free summer evening concerts is being held during the month of August with international musicians delighting the audiences in the cool evenings of the high ground of north-western Murcia.

All of the events begin at 22.00 in the outdoor auditorium of the Museum of Ethnic Instruments in Barranda, which also houses the Blanco Fadol collection, and the last features Son de Madera from Mexico.

Son de Madera specialize in Jarocho music, that of the traditional cattle ranchers and minstrels of the Veracruz area of Mexico, and this is a tradition which still lives on through various groups all over the world. The main features are the reliance on the vocal skills of the performers, the use of dance as a percussion instruments and the almost orchestral strings arrangements as each member of the group brings extra talent and creativity to the Jarocho sound.

Admission to the concert, like all four of those in this season, is free of charge.
