August 12 Medina Azahara live in concert in Jumilla

Free admission to see the legendary Córdoba rockers on their farewell nationwide tour

Medina Azahara, named after the historic site just a few kilometres from their home city of Córdoba, were formed in the late 1970s and soon became popular with their mix of hard rock (think Deep Purple and Riannbow) and symphonic rock.

They maintained a constant output of hit singles and albums throughout the 1980s and 90s and have remained active ever since, still touring today with their original lead vocalist Manuel Martínez. It is estimated that they had achieved worldwide sales of over 2 million albums by 2003.

As part of their latest tour (which they say will be their last, calling it the “Todo tiene su fin” tour) they are offering a free concert in Jumilla on Tuesday 12^th August, starting at midnight in the grounds of the Arzobispo Lozano secondary school (click for map). This falls within the festivities which are being held to celebrate the annual fiestas of Jumilla, also coinciding with the beginning of the grape harvest – and therefore another season of production in the renowned wineries of the area.

This is likely to be a very popular concert, since Medina Azahara’s fates in Bilbao, Barcelona, Granada, Córdoba, León and Badajoz have already sold out.
