The Planets, written during the First World War, is 7-movement orchestral suite by English composer Gustav Holst, in which each movement is inspired by a planet of the Solar System and its supposed astrological character.
Thus, (in the order of performance), Mars is the Bringer of War, Venus the Bringer of Peace, Mercury the Winged Messenger, Jupiter the Bringer of Jollity, Saturn the Bringer of Old Age, Uranus the Magician and Neptune, the Mystic. The work was first performed at Queen's Hall, London, in 1918, just weeks before the end of the Great War.
This performance in Águilas is offered by the orchestra and of the Conservatorio of Murcia and begins at 20.00 with admission free of charge!
