After a settled, sunny stretch earlier in the week, Andalucía heads into the weekend with temperatures on the rise again and heat warnings already waiting in the wings for Friday and Saturday, with Córdoba and Seville both pushing close to 40°C before Sunday brings some relief.

 

 

A fine opening to the weekend. Mostly clear or sunny skies across Andalucía, with low cloud around the Strait of Gibraltar through the morning and the chance of occasional light rain there. Cloud builds in the eastern interior mountains during the day, but for most of the region it's a comfortable, sunny Thursday. Temperatures are largely stable, with the Huelva coast seeing maximums nudge up to around 34°C. Moderate easterly winds in Cádiz province, light and variable elsewhere, becoming westerly along the Atlantic coast during the afternoon.

 

 

The heat steps up. Córdoba and Seville are both under heat warnings, reaching 39°C and 38°C respectively, as temperatures along the Guadalquivir valley climb sharply. Skies are partly cloudy or clear, with intervals of low cloud along the Mediterranean coast and the Strait area, and cloud developing in the eastern interior mountains through the day. Málaga sees maximum temperatures rising on the Mediterranean coast, while most of the rest of the region sees little change. Winds are light and variable across most of Andalucía, with light to moderate easterlies in the Strait of Gibraltar.

 

 

Warnings continue for Córdoba and Seville, with both cities still close to 40°C. Partly cloudy skies, with low cloud intervals along the Mediterranean coast and further afternoon cloud development in the mountains. Temperatures on the Mediterranean coast are rising, while the interior holds steady. Jaén, sitting between the two temperature extremes, feels the warmth without quite reaching the Atlantic plain's peaks. Winds are light and variable, turning westerly along the Mediterranean coast in the afternoon, with moderate easterlies persisting in the Strait. Tarifa, as ever, catches the brunt of those winds.

 

 

A change of mood to close the weekend. Cloudy skies move in with intervals of mid-level cloud, and temperatures fall generally across Andalucía. It won't feel dramatically cooler, but the drop will be noticeable after two days of warnings. Granada and Almería, at the eastern end of the region, should see some of the more marked falls. Light to moderate easterlies continue around the Strait, with light and variable winds elsewhere tending westerly on the Atlantic side in the afternoon.

 

 

Two days of late-September heat warnings is a reminder that summer doesn't surrender quietly in Andalucía. Sunday's cloud and cooler air offer a brief reset, but don't put the fan away just yet.
