Due to the ongoing extreme risk of forest fires, natural parks in Alicante remain closed as authorities take precautions against the effects of a severe heatwave. The Generalitat (Valencian regional government) has extended closures to Monday for key parks including La Font Roja, Mariola, Serra Gelada, and El Montgó. The Vía Verde in Alcoy is also closed for the same reason.

 

The decision follows a red alert issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) last Saturday when temperatures soared above 43°C. The Generalitat’s joint instruction, released by the Valencian Agency for Safety and Emergency Response and the Regional Secretariat of Environment and Territory, enforces extraordinary measures to prevent forest fire outbreaks during this critical period.

 

Authorities have maintained Pre-emergency Level 3 of the Special Plan against the Risk of Forest Fires of the Valencian Community (PEIF) from Saturday August 16 to Monday August 18, 2025, covering the entire region. This level carries strict restrictions including the suspension of certain activities and heightened safety recommendations to reduce fire risk.

 

Adding to the concern are forecasts of possible storms starting Tuesday. These may include electrical activity, posing an additional threat of igniting fires in the already dry landscape.

 

The closure of these sensitive natural spaces reflects the seriousness of the situation as hot conditions persist alongside increased vigilance. The Generalitat reminds the public to stay alert to weather updates and adhere to safety advice to help protect the region’s treasured natural areas during this challenging time.
