Alicante Father's Day supermarket hours: What's open and closed on March 19
Supermarkets and shopping centres across the Costa Blanca adjust hours for the San José holiday

Across the Costa Blanca, Father’s Day and the festival of San José on March 19 is traditionally a quiet one for retail, with most supermarkets closing for the public holiday.
While many people plan ahead, the day is often preceded by a last minute rush to pick up essentials or a gift. Even so, “everything closed” is still largely the rule on the day itself, although a handful of smaller stores remain open for convenience.
Here is a clear guide to what is open and closed in Alicante and across the wider Costa Blanca:
Supermarkets closed on March 19
Most major supermarket chains will not open on Father’s Day:
- Mercadona: all stores closed
- Carrefour: large stores, including San Vicente, closed
- Alcampo: closed for the day
- Lidl: all stores closed
- Aldi: closed
- Consum: all supermarkets closed, except selected Charter franchise stores
Supermarkets open on March 19
A limited number of smaller convenience-style stores will open, mainly in central locations:
- Carrefour Express
- Calderón de la Barca: 9am to 9pm
- Palmeres-Bacarot: 6am to 9pm
- La Goteta: 9am to 9pm
- Plaza Gabriel Miró: 10am to 9.30pm
- Eusebio Sempere: 9am to 9.30pm
- Avenida de Alcoy: 10am to 9.30pm
- Plaza del Ayuntamiento: 10am to 10pm
Charter stores (Consum franchises)
- Catedrático Daniel Jiménez de Cisneros: 9am to 9.45pm
- Avenida Padre Esplá: 6am to 10pm
- Calle Músico José Torregrosa: 8am to 9pm
Shopping centres
Shopping centres across the province will keep their retail stores closed, but leisure areas, cinemas and restaurants will remain open.
- Gran Vía: 12pm to 1pm
- Plaza Mar 2: 11am to 11.30pm
- Puerta de Alicante: 12pm to 11pm
- Parque Vistahermosa: 12pm to 12.30am
- L’Aljub (Elche): 11am to 12.30am
- The Outlet Stores (San Vicente): 12pm to 1am
- Portal de la Marina (Ondara): 12pm to 12.30am
- Zenia Boulevard (Orihuela Costa): 12pm to midnight
- Habaneras (Torrevieja): 10am to 11pm.
As always on public holidays, opening times can vary by location, so it is worth checking ahead before setting out.
