Alhama embraces innovation and tradition in 2025 cultural agenda
A new reading room designed to inspire all ages will be developed in Condado de Alhama
The Department of Culture and Historical Heritage is unveiling an ambitious cultural programme designed to celebrate the rich traditions of Alhama de Murcia while embracing innovation. Councillor Ginés José Muñoz has highlighted a dynamic mix of projects aimed at enriching the municipality’s cultural life and safeguarding its historical treasures.
Exciting new projects
- Municipal Toy Library: A dedicated space for board games, fostering educational and intergenerational fun for all ages.
- Reading Room in Condado de Alhama: A hub to inspire reading and cultural engagement.
- Digital Entertainment Hall: A state-of-the-art venue for video games and tech-centric activities tailored for young people.
- Local Studies Journal: A publication that will pay tribute to the history and heritage of the municipality.
Reviving traditions
- Resumption of iconic events such as the Quick Painting Competition and the Alfonso Martínez Mena Literature Competition.
- Cultural excursions to Córdoba in March and Toledo in November are back on the calendar, offering enriching travel experiences.
- A series of talks on stage music, covering opera, zarzuela and ballet, culminates in a trip to a spectacular musical production.
Heritage and innovation
- Cultural Interest Designation (BIC): Steps will be taken to secure official recognition for the Pozo de la Nieve as a protected heritage site.
- Cerro del Castillo Archaeological Park: Progress continues on creating a park to showcase this vital archaeological site.
- Digital access to Heritage: While site improvements are underway, digital tools will ensure residents and visitors can still engage with Alhama’s storied past.
- Regulations for library and archives: Modernised policies will create more comfortable, efficient spaces for study and research.
Community events
- A mystery gymkhana will lead participants on an educational and entertaining tour of the municipality, perfect for both locals and tourists.
- Popular staples like the Paparajote War and the Christmas Manga Show remain central to Alhama’s festive spirit.
Councillor Muñoz encourages residents, artists and cultural organisations to contribute ideas to expand Alhama de Murcia’s cultural offerings.
“Culture is the soul of our people. Together we can make it grow,” he said.
