Alhama de Murcia Council report on the saga of the lakes at Condado de Alhama

The Town Council of Alhama de Murcia has criticised the lack of collaboration of the Urban Conservation Entity of Condado with the situation of the lakes

After severe drought and other water availability problems resulted in the La Isla lakes which surround the La Isla area of the Condado urbanisation all but drying up, complaints from local property owners were made to the Urban Conservation Entity for Condado de Alhama, who have a responsibility for the lakes. With various options proving problematic an approach was made to Alhama de Murcia Council to seek a solution to the problem.

The Mayor's Office of Alhama de Murcia has expressed its concern about the lack of collaboration from the president of the Urban Conservation Entity for the Condado de Alhama urbanisation, who has not attended meetings on the urgent measures to be implemented to the lakes.

On August 5, the Mayor, councillors and technicians of the Town Council of Alhama de Murcia held a meeting with the president and managers of the Urban Conservation Entity, as well as with residents of the Condado de Alhama. During the meeting, crucial issues were addressed relating to irrigation water and the ornamental lake, with the aim of keeping residents informed about the management carried out by the Urban entity.

The Town Council promised to establish fluid communication with the Urban Conservation Entity of Condado de Alhama, who are responsible for the maintenance and management of La Isla’s lakes, to inform to the residents. Over recent weeks, technicians from the Town Council have repeatedly visited the lake, resulting in reports being prepared and regular meetings taking place.

In addition, the Town Council has requested from the urban entity all the necessary documentation relating to the maintenance that has taken place in connection with the lake during the last 5 years and will carry out an inspection of water management carried out during those years.

Due to the absence of the president of the Conservation Entity Urban for Condado de Alhama at both official appointments, the Town Council will inform and demand the solution proposed by the technicians to resolve the situation regarding the lake, which is stated as urgent, should be actioned without delay, with deadlines for execution given to the entity in order to guarantee transparency and the correct use of water resources in the area.
