Air cooling system makes the Palacio de Guevara in Lorca an even more attractive visit
The new system also helps preserve the works of art and other treasure inside the 17-th century mansion
The Palacio de Guevara, one of the most popular attractions for both visitors and locals in the city of Lorca, has now become a lot more comfortable to visit during the heat of the summer following the installation of 12 evaporation coolers, which make it possible to lower room temperatures by as much as 7 degrees.
Although not all of the rooms in the magnificent 17th-century baroque residence are affected, the vast majority are now set to become far more attractive despite the heat of August!
An additional benefit, and one of equal importance, is that the new system will contribute significantly to preserving the valuable works of art and craftsman ship which furnish the building, and which were collected by those who lived here right up until 1988. While the air is cooled the 12 machines generate humidity, and this favours the condition of the furniture, the textiles, the works of art and other museum pieces which are of great historical and artistic interest.
In addition, they are mounted on wheels, so they do not hang from the walls in an unsightly fashion and can be moved according to different needs at different times of year.
Don’t forget, guided tours of the Palacio de Guevara are available (only in Spanish) every day of the week. They last around 45 minutes and, if you understand Spanish or have someone to translate for you, are a great way to appreciate the aristocratic past of the building! Booking is available online here or directly through the tourist office, which is located on the ground floor of the palace.
