Águilas backs maritime tourism with massive overhaul of its sailing club
The refurbishment work at the hostel is now complete, improving accommodation and guest facilities

The Águilas Sailing Club has finished a makeover of its hostel, making the building more accessible and modern. The work was funded through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which is a large-scale government programme funded by the European Union to help local infrastructure adapt to modern standards. By tapping into these funds, the club has been able to bring the hostel up to a modern standard, making it a more comfortable place for guests to stay.
The new look was presented recently at the club's social hall in an event attended by regional officials
and members of the local community. Cristóbal Casado, a representative from the town hall, was there to see how the project.
During the opening of the event, the director of the Club Náutico explained that these works are an important part of strengthening the services the club offers, particularly in terms of supporting the tourism that flows into the local coastline and the town's busy marina.
The renovation involved a full update of the guest rooms and a change to the building's layout. A major part of the project was focused on removing barriers so that the hostel is easier for everyone to use, including those with limited mobility. The internal spaces have been opened up and modernised, making the accommodation feel far more practical for the groups of athletes and travellers who stay there during the busy sailing and diving seasons.
These changes are expected to help the area attract more people who are interested in coastal activities and sports. Local representatives at the meeting mentioned that keeping these types of facilities in good condition is important for the town's economy over the long term.
By providing better places to stay right by the water, the club is helping to make sure the town remains a practical but welcoming destination for visitors throughout the year.
