2-million-euro investment promised on the rural road of Sierra del Carche in Jumilla
The RM-A15 is much used by Jumilla wineries and visitors to the mountains of Sierra del Carche
The regional government of Murcia has announced an investment of more than 2 million euros in improvements to the RM-A15 road, which leads from Jumilla to the boundary of the Region with the province of Alicante and the town of Pinoso.
The initial work is to be carried out on the 2.8 kilometres which lie at the Jumilla end of the road, which is much used both by the wineries which are located in the foothills of the Sierra del Carche and by visitors heading out for a day in the mountains and the countryside. Many of these visitors, of course, are also visiting the wineries, where some of the best of Jumilla’s DOP wines are produced.
In addition, this first section includes a route to the junctions at kilometres 31 and 41 of the A-33 motorway, easing transport problems for the wineries.
As a consequence of the project this section of the road will be widened and re-surfaced, and it is expected that the works contract will be put out to tender in the near future. According to Mayoress Seve González, this is a “historical demand of the town of Jumilla”, and follows meetings with more than 50 of the landowners along the route.
Other projects are also being undertaken on Jumilla’s country roads, including the improvements on the one leading to Cuadrado (RM-A11), which were completed in 2024 at a cost of over 1.1 million euros, and the upcoming re-surfacing on the road from La Celia to the boundary with the province of Albacete (around 380,000 euros).
